To keep up with web spammers and to make sure unnatural SEO practices are kept under check, Google keeps updating its search algorithm. The number of changes range from 400-500 each year (2010 had 516 updates), while close to 10,000+ changes are itself tested each year.     8 August 2023

    On August 8, 2023, Google released an update to change the appearance of some rich results in their search results to provide a more consistent and satisfying search experience. Google will reduce the visibility of FAQ-rich results with this update. Those results shall only be available for highly authoritative Government sites and health websites. The update shall also limit the availability of how-to results to desktop devices only. The update will take a week to be rolled out globally.

    On April 12, Google released the “Reviews Update". This new update now not only covers Product Reviews but also reviews on Services and Things. Google has also changed the name “Product Review Systems” to “Review Systems”. The aim of this update remains the same as earlier.     On February 21, Google started rolling out the “Product reviews update," which will take about two weeks to roll out completely. The purpose of the product review system is to give recognition to reviews with top-notch quality. This type of content should be created by someone familiar with the subject and provide a detailed analysis and in-depth research instead of just a summary of different products. For websites with many product reviews, the update might evaluate any content within the site.

    December 2022 Google Link Spam Update

    14 December 2022

    On December 14, Google started rolling out the “December 2022 link spam update," which will take about two weeks to completely roll out. The link spam update aims to neutralize the impact of unnatural links used for ranking in search results using Google’s SpamBrain. The ranking of those websites using unnatural links may drop due to this update as spammy links are canceled, and any credits passed by these unnatural links are lost. This launch will affect all languages.

    Google Search Console introduced a new section for Shopping tab listings to help online store owners show their products on the Shopping tab on Google. That will allow eligible online store owners that have implemented product mark-up to view a new section called Shopping tab listings. Google will roll out this change gradually over the next few weeks, so you might see no changes for now.

    19 October 2022

    On October 19, Google rolled out the “October 22 Spam Update”. This new search ranking algorithm update targets the more spammy side of the search results. Google said this update is global, and it will take about a week to roll out and be noticed in the search results fully. Websites that face changes after this spam update should review their spam policies to ensure they comply with the “October 22 Spam Update”.

    On October 14, Google Search introduced site names on mobile search results to make it easier to identify the website associated with each result. Now, site owners can indicate their preferred site name using structured data on their homepage to tell Google what the site name should be.     On October 13, Google moved away from using the term "webmaster" in the site's name and the new name adopted is Google Search Essentials. The only remaining in the new site is the "Webmaster Guidelines". Google has simplified the site by moving many of the former guidelines to specific sections under three categories named Technical Requirements, Spam Policies, and Key Best Practices.

    On October 13, Google announced the first of the Search Central Live events would happen in Singapore on November 24, 2022. Previously, Google organized events for site owners and SEOs in over 15 countries, specifically in regions that didn't get much search conference love in 2019. That will provide more information regarding the HTTPS status of the site and make it easier to understand which pages are not served over HTTPS, and why not.

    Google announced the rollout of an update regarding Googlebot documentation. Google has documented that the Googlebot sees only the first 15 MB while fetching an HTML file, provided the file type is supported by Google Search. Googlebot sends that 15MBof  data for indexing and the content after the first 15 MB is dropped by the bot. This threshold is not new; however, Google has documented the same now.

    25 May 2022

    Google announced the rollout of a core update. The rollout approximately lasted 2 weeks and was finished on June 9. The ranking flux was at its peak on the first day of the rollout. The core update is for improving the overall search results and increasing the relevancy of Google SERPs for all users. However, Google did not reveal the specifics as their standard practice with maximum Core Updates.
